Together, we contribute to greater opportunities and a more sustainable future. Star for Life is a non-profit organization with a clear mission: to help young people value education, make healthy life choices and realize their dreams.
The initiative was founded in 2005 by Sigma’s owner, Dan Olofsson, driven by a desire to support young people affected by HIV/AIDS and to create new opportunities through education and inspiration. Today, Star for Life operates in several countries in Southern Africa, working with schools, coaches and community programs to strengthen self-esteem, improve academic results, increase health awareness and open pathways to higher education and sustainable livelihoods.
While teachers focus on academic instruction, Star for Life coaches work closely with students on self-confidence, values, dreams and goals. Through workshops, exercises and music, children and young people gain knowledge about everything from puberty, consent and sexual and reproductive health to relationships, hygiene, study skills, empowerment, respect, creative expression and entrepreneurship.
Since its inception, more than 500,000 students have participated in Star for Life’s programs. Evaluations show that the greatest positive impact is seen among girls in the most vulnerable communities.
